Amersham Town Crier

Mark Jones – Amersham’s New Official Town Crier

Mark Jones was born in Amersham 51 years ago and has lived in and around the town all his life. He attended Chenies Primary School and completed his education at Chesham High School.

He has had an interesting and varied career in the marketing and creative world that has seen him travel throughout the UK and Europe. However, he can’t think of a better place to live than his home town. Mark states, “For many years people told me that with my naturally loud voice I should be a Town Crier! Well now I can use this “ability” in my new role as Amersham’s Town Crier, a position that I feel very honoured, privileged and proud to hold.”

Mark will be seen (and heard) at several official events in Amersham including the late night Christmas shopping events, Heritage Day and the Carnival. He will also be available for selected promotional activities, charity events, weddings, etc.

As Mark is Amersham’s first Town Crier he has had to have an outfit tailored for him by a leading historical costumier based in Nottingham. His uniform is based on a traditional 1750’s design.

In preparation for his new role Mark has studied the colourful history of Town Criers and intends to offer local schools the opportunity to learn about their Town Crier and the fascinating stories associated with the profession.

In recognition of his new status Mark has been invited to join The Ancient and Honourable Guild Of Town Criers.

Mark has his own website http://www.amershamtowncrier.com/

An update to the above is that Mark has relocated to rural Wales and we have a Amersham Town Crier vacancy.  If you are interested in applying for this role, please contact Mrs Janet Wheeler, Town Clerk 01494 434000 or townclerk@amersham-tc.gov.uk
