The Citizen of the Year Award for Amersham were presented by the Martin Phillips, Town Mayor on Sunday 2nd May 2010, with the winners as follows (from left to right):

AMERSHAM CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2010

FRED HARRISON

 

As Chairman of the Amersham Band, Fred takes care of the committee that run the Band. He performs this role with professionalism, courtesy, calmness and good humour! Not only does Fred organise the many events in which the Band take part, he has re-designed the Band’s website and keeps it up to date with current news and events. On top of all this, Fred is also a fine cornet player and is one of the senior band members who go along to the Training Band each Thursday evening to encourage the next generation of Amersham Band members. Fred is an outstanding choice as Citizen of the Year we know the Band is very proud of him.

 

AMERSHAM SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2010

JOHN FOX

 

John is a member of the Rotary Club of Amersham and has worked tirelessly through the years to organise, plan and bring to fruition their Annual Concert for the Elderly held in January each year in the Drake Hall. John also carries out auditions for the various stage acts and organizes the planning of the collection of the elderly guests from homes within the Amersham area. John is inspiring in his efforts and commitment to community activities and organisations.

 

AMERSHAM JUNIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2010

ALEX DENTON

 

As the ‘Mad Youth Club’ Leader at St. Mary’s Church, Alex has stood out because of his faultless commitment to helping the youth & children’s clubs, always going the extra mile. He sees what needs doing and then does it!  Alex has worked with over 100 children on a regular basis demonstrating care which can then impact on the family and community life of those children. An amazing volunteer for only 16 years of age and proof positive that our youth does indeed have a future.

 

AMERSHAM SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR 2010

RUTH CARPENTER

 

Ruth has excelled in the sport of rowing, last year winning the Academic Coxed Fours at Henley, the British University College Championship Eights and a Silver Medal at the European University Games. Ruth was Women’s Boat Club Captain at Durham University organising crews, coxes & transport for events and training and acting as a ‘mentor’ to other rowers. She is rowing for the University of London this year which means leaving Amersham at 5am most days for training on the Thames and she is going through the gruelling GB rowing trials.

 

 

AMERSHAM BUSINESS AWARD 2010

ALAN CARMODY

OLD AMERSHAM BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

 

Alan has worked tirelessly and voluntarily for Amersham as Chairman of the Old Amersham Business Association. He has reinvigorated this association and was instrumental in uniting the business and residential community of this historic Market Town during the ‘No Parking Plans’ protest.  He is very ‘hands on’ and participated in the Clean Up Amersham Days and fully supports all community activities in the Old Town such as the Christmas Lights Night. He has set up a communication network so that the businesses are kept up to date with activities going on in their town.

MARY NORRIS

 

Mary has given exemplary service as an unpaid volunteer. She has been a member of Amersham Hospital League of Friends Years for many years. Mary is inspiring in her efforts and commitment to a wide range of community activities and organisations.
