When & where does the Council Meet?

Back to Council Meetings

All Council meetings are held at 7.30pm at Amersham Town Council, 2nd floor, The Council Chamber, King George V House, King George V Road, Amersham, Bucks HP6 5AW until further notice.

Agendas are issued a minimum of three clear days before the meetings and are posted on public notice boards throughout the town and also on this web site (see below).

The press and public are welcome to attend all full council and committee meetings. There is a 15 minute public discussion period at the commencement of each full Council meeting during which members of the public may put questions or make statements on any matter that is within the remit of the Town Council. Members of the public and press are only asked to leave a meeting if there are any confidential items on the agenda and this is normally dealt with as the last business of the meeting.

The main committees are:

  • Finance and General Purposes
  • Community Services
  • Planning and Footpaths

In addition a number of sub-committees and working groups meet as and when required to discuss particular issues and report back to the relevant committee or to full council. The minutes of each meeting are usually available 4 working days following the meeting. The minutes are not a verbatim account of the meeting but detail the decisions made. They are available to the public and can be found in Amersham Library and the Council offices and this website. They are also circulated to the various local media organisations.

HOW DO THE COUNCIL MEETINGS OPERATE?

The full Town Council of all 15 councillors meets 6 times each year. It deals with all council business (other than planning issues - see under Committee Meetings page) including recommendations from it's various working committees.

The agenda for the meeting is prepared by the Town Clerk and the Mayor. This will be a combination of following up or reporting on matters from previous meetings in addition to new issues that have arisen.

Each agenda item is discussed and voted upon by the Councillors. The results of the votes are recorded in the minutes, which are available to all members of the public. They are usually ready 4 working days following the meeting and can be found in the libraries and the Town Council offices and of course, this web site (see below). They are also circulated to the various local media organisations so that they can report on the issues facing the community via newspapers and radio.

Once a decision has been passed by Council, and a course of action identified, the work is organised and/or carried out by the staff in the Town Clerk's Office.

Please note it is sometimes unavoidable that meeting dates need to be changed at short notice. Please check this web site or contact the Town Council Offices to confirm a meeting date.
