Update from Fusion on behalf of HS2 :  Upcoming works at Amersham A404, Whielden Lane and A413

Work taking place – 18 May to 4 July 2020

Works are being undertaken by Fusion (HS2 Contractor) to provide safety and capacity improvements for motorists, pedestrians and HS2 related traffic prior to the commencement of construction on the Amersham HS2 vent shaft. 

The work will include installation of a traffic light controlled junction from Whielden Lane onto the A404 and will necessitate a closure of the section of Whielden Lane towards the junction with the A404

The closure will be in place 24 hours a day from 18 May for a 7 week period until 4 July 2020.

A diversion route will be in place along Whielden Street, The Broadway, Gore Hill to the A402 and A404.  Access to the hospital will be maintained throughout along Whielden Street from the Broadway and the Old Town.

Bus stops along Whielden Street and part of The Broadway will not be in use during this time. Affected bus stops are shown in the document below. The closest open bus stops will be on the A404 outside the Chiltern Crematorium and on Gore Hill located between the A413 and The Broadway roundabouts.

 It is understood Buckinghamshire Council is liaising with HS2 about the feasibility of providing a shuttle bus for passengers between the nearby open bus- the hospital for the duration of the works

Pedestrian / cycle way access will be maintained throughout these junction works through the existing link path that crosses the vent shaft site. This path links the A404 near to the crematorium entrance and Whielden Street, near to the hospital entrance and A413 bypass overbridge.
